Furniture Exchange needs donations

The MIT Student Furniture Exchange, the Women's League service that sells used furniture at bargain prices to students, is looking for serviceable donations to restock its inventory. All donations are tax-deductible.

Since the September rush depleted a good amount of inventory, the Furniture Exchange (FX) is in need of upholstered furniture (sofas, hide-a-beds and chairs), tables, bookcases and shelves, desks, beds and futons, dressers, cabinets, and household goods of all kinds, including small appliances in good working order, cookware, dishes and glassware, lamps, bric-a-brac, rugs, children's items, used bikes and more.

"Since all proceeds of the FX sales are donated to the Women's League Scholarship Fund, not only are present students being helped to furnish living spaces, but contributions are being made toward scholarships as well," said FX manager Judy Halloran. Students with ID from MIT, Harvard, Boston University and Suffolk University may make purchases.

The FX is staffed by Women's League volunteers. Hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The FX is located in the rear of Building WW15 at 350 Brookline St., where the BU Bridge meets Memorial Drive. Parking is available. Pickups of large donations can be arranged. For more information, call x3-4293 or e-mail fx@mit.edu.
