MIT radio station plans fundraiser starting Nov. 12

WMBR-FM, celebrating its 40th year of operation, will hold its annual on-air fundraiser from Sunday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 18. Each of WMBR's programs will be heard at the usual time, but many will provide special programming for the event.

Contributors will receive premiums for contributions at various thresholds, including a Team WMBR baseball shirt and the always-popular "hour of airtime."

Last year, WMBR (88.1 FM) raised more than $50,000 from its listeners, all of which went to improve the station's equipment. Contributions were used to completely renovate one of WMBR's control rooms, which will "take air" later this fall.

This year, WMBR's goal is to raise $55,000, and all contributions will be earmarked for planned studio expansion and equipment upgrades, including a complete renovation of the second air studio.

Non-commercial WMBR is both a student activity and an MIT community station. Funding assistance is provided by MIT in the form of an annual operating grant, and listener contributions provide funds for capital improvements. The all-volunteer staff includes MIT students, alumni and staff, as well as other members of the community.
