Phone exchange added

In June, MIT added a new telephone exchange -- 452 -- to its campus system to help meet MIT's growing demand for telephone service, including voice, fax and data transmission.

The new numbers, ranging from 452-2000 to 452-5999, will be assigned to departments and staff. The addition of 452 brings MIT's number of phone exchanges to six.

Although 452 shares the same last digit with the 252 exchange, the five-digit calling pattern for on-campus calls will not be affected. This is because the ranges of numbers available in these two exchanges do not overlap. The range of numbers for 252 runs from 252-1000 to 252-1999, and 252-6950 to 252-7049.

Below is a list of all of MIT's exchanges with their number ranges, including those assigned to students in dormitories.

MIT's Information Systems Telephone Support reminds everyone to give the 617 area code and the full seven-digit phone number on correspondence, letterhead, business cards, etc., so callers from off campus will reach the correct exchange.

Anyone with questions about MIT's telephone service may contact the telephone customer service representatives at x3-3670 or telecom-csr@mit.edu. This information and links are also available on the web site at http://web.mit.edu/is/tel/numbers.html.
