Student dies in fall

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A memorial service will be held Thursday (February 11) at 5pm at the MIT Chapel for Michael Manley, a freshman resident of MacGregor House, who died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in a fall from an upper-story window of the dormitory, MIT Campus Police reported.

He was taken by ambulance to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival shortly after 3pm. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner has ruled the death a suicide.

MIT officials contacted Mr. Manley's family in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday. The House masters, resident tutors, members of the Dean's Office, the Medical Department, and other staff were available at the dormitory over the weekend to provide counseling and assistance to his friends and other students.
