Genzyme CEO to speak here this afternoon

Henri A. Termeer, president and CEO of Genzyme Corp., will speak on "Trends in the Emerging Biotechnology Industry" on Wednesday, May 12 from 4-5:30pm in Wong Auditorium (Building E51).

His talk is part of the Industry Leaders in Technology and Management Series hosted by the Center for Technology, Policy and Industrial Development and the Office of Corporate Relations.

Mr. Termeer was appointed president of Genzyme in 1983, chief executive officer in 1985 and chairman in 1988. Under his leadership, the company has grown from a modest entrepreneurial venture into one of the world's top biotechnology companies. Before joining Genzyme, Mr. Termeer held various management positions over a 10-year period at Baxter Travenol (now Baxter International), including executive vice president of Baxter's Hyland Therapeutics Division and general manager of Travenol GmbH in Germany.

Mr. Termeer is a trustee and vice chairman of the Boston Museum of Science, a member of the Massachusetts Governor's Council on Economic Growth and Technology, and a board member of the Massachusetts High Technology Council. A native of the Netherlands, he studied economics at the University of Rotterdam and holds a master's in business administration from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.
