River gets spring cleaning

In what has become an annual rite of spring, MIT Sea Grant is sponsoring a clean-up along the Charles River banks on Saturday, May 2 from 9:30am-noon, beginning at the Little League field/parking lot closest to the BU Bridge.

The MIT community is encouraged to attend; volunteers can pick up gloves and trash bags (as well as coffee and muffins) at the ball field. The clean-up is co-sponsored by the Friends of Magazine Beach, which works for the protection and improvement of Magazine Beach and the riverfront. Support is also provided by the Metropolitan District Commission and Trader Joe's.

Last year's April clean-up attracted close to 100 people from throughout the community. In addition to MIT students and faculty, Cambridge residents, children and local businesses and boat houses will be pitching in. For more details, call Andrea Cohen at MIT Sea Grant, x3-3461, alcohen@mit.edu.
