Grad student orientation features music, activities and information

This year's Graduate Student Council orientation for new graduate students has a major new feature -- an activities carnival and information fair on Thursday, Sept. 3 with sports activities, a barbecue and the music of Bim Skala Bim, a Boston-based ska band.

During the afternoon, graduate clubs and other student groups will have games, crafts and other participatory events for new students on Kresge Oval. There will be pick-up games on Briggs Field (rugby, cricket, soccer, field hockey, ultimate and volleyball), a dance lesson on Kresge Oval, Tae Kwon Do lessons and a rowing competition. At the Alumni Pool, visitors can learn about scuba, kayaking, swimming and water polo. The rain location is Johnson Athletics Center.

At the barbecue that evening, there will be welcoming addresses and prizes given away for some of the afternoon events. Winners must be present.

For more information, check the booths in Lobby 10 or go to the GSC web site and click on "Orientation Schedule."
