ILG officers attend alcohol education

The key officers from 26 independent living groups (ILG) were among 400 students and alumni who attended a program entitled "Alcohol -- Its Impact on the Living Group and its Residents" at Kresge Auditorium on Saturday.

The program was part of the undergraduate Interfraternity Council's education-focused effort to assure safe and responsible environments in fraternity and sorority houses and other ILGs.

The speakers were former Judge Mitch Crane, a Pennsylvania official for Sigma Phi Epsilon; Ron Fleming, director of the Personal Assistance Program; Dr. Arnold Weinberg, director of the Medical Department; and Dr. Robert Deloian, general council president of the Phi Delta Theta national fraternity.

The president, social chair, risk management officer and new member education officer from each ILG were required to attend Mr. Crane's talk to fulfill the requirements of the IFC Alcohol Certification Policy. Attendance at the medical presentation was part of a requirement that two-thirds of members of each house participate in a program covering basic alcohol physiology, emergency alcohol response and guidelines and strategies for safe alcohol use.
