Arthur Solomon, a former MIT professor and director of the MIT-Harvard Joint Center for Urban Studies, will address the graduates and their families at the MIT Center for Real Estate (CRE) celebration in honor of the class of 1997 on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Bartos Theatre (Building E15).
Mr. Solomon is managing director of Lazard Freres & Co., LLC and head of the firm's real estate group. In addition to his career in industry and academia, Mr. Solomon served in the Johnson administration on the President's Task Force on Domestic and Intergovernmental Affairs, and later as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Federal National Mortgage Association.
The CRE celebration, though not an official graduation, has many of the conventional trappings of MIT's June ceremony. This year, the 13th class will march in academic regalia to the strains of a trumpet processional to receive their MS degrees in real estate development. Professor Bernard Frieden, associate dean of the School of Architecture and Planning, will welcome the graduates and their families. Class speakers are Christopher Goodnow and Samuel Mundel. There are now more than 400 graduates of the program working in the real estate industry.
