Event welcomes international newcomers to Institute

There will be an open house for new international members of the MIT community today (August 27) from 10am-4pm in the Bush Room (10-105). The informal reception, plus a faculty discussion in the evening, are being sponsored by the International Scholars Office, the International Students Office and the Medical Department.

All new international undergraduate and graduate students, faculty research scholars and their families are invited to the open house. The event will offer information on English classes, Wives' group programs, athletics, clubs, and other activities. Volunteers fluent in many languages will describe various services and activities and answer questions.

From 7:30-9pm in the Bush Room, there will be a faculty panel discussion chaired by Professor Frank Solomon (biology), with Professors Lorna J. Gibson (materials science and engineering), Jed Z. Buchwald (Program in Science, Technology and Society), Mark J. Schuster (urban studies and planning) and George C. Verghese (electrical engineering and computer science).
