Panelists to discuss evolution of feminism

Assistant Professor Evelynn Hammonds of the Program in Science, Technology and Society will moderate a panel discussion entitled "Generations of Feminism" sponsored by the Program in Women's Studies on Thursday, April 24 at 7pm in Rm 10-250. The event is open to the public.

The discussion will address issues such as challenges to feminism, conflicts between work and family, responsibilities and expectations of feminism, and media images and stereotypes of feminists. Panelists will probe the extent and implications of a feminist "generation gap" between the 1970s and today, and how feminist issues have changed over that time.

Panelists will be Katha Pollitt, author of the "Subject to Debate" column in The Nation and the recent book Reasonable Creatures: Essays on Women and Feminism; Linda C. Powell, a psychotherapist and lecturer at Harvard's Graduate School of Education; Pam Prasarttongosoth, a senior in urban studies and planning with a concentration in women's studies and a founding member of MIT's Asian Pacific American Caucus; Lamelle Rawlins, a Harvard sophomore and student body president; and Alan Shihadeh, an MIT graduate student in mechanical engineering and a member of the Alternative News Collective, which publishes The Thistle.
