AIDS walk team seeks members

The MIT team for the 12th annual AIDS Walkathon scheduled for June 1 is looking for more members.

The 10-kilometer walk to benefit the AIDS Action Committee, New England's largest one-day AIDS fundraiser, is expected to raise more than $2.75 million. Last year, more than 40 members of the community registered with the MIT team and raised nearly $9,000. This will be the sixth year for the Institute's team participation.

All MIT community members planning to walk are encouraged to use the MIT Team number, 328, on their pledge forms even if they do not plan to walk with the MIT group. The team hopes to assemble at the Boston Common for a group photograph before starting the walk.

The rain-or-shine walk route will begin at the bandstand on Boston Common, then proceed to Coolidge Corner in Brookline, back across the BU Bridge to the Harvard Bridge and down the Esplanade, culminating with a concert at the Hatch Shell. Proceeds benefit the AIDS Action Committee and 31 other AIDS service providers in the eastern Massachusetts area.

Volunteers are also needed on the steering committee to help organize the team. The team coordinator is Caroline Chang, a senior in biology. For more information, pledge forms, posters and buttons, volunteers and walkers should contact Ms. Chang at <chc@mit.edu> or 497-8413.
