Wilson is named director of foundation relations

John Wilson has become director of foundation relations and development services. Announcement of his promotion was made by Barbara Stowe, vice president for resource development.

Dr. Wilson came to MIT in 1985 and worked in both the President's Office and Financial Operations before joining Resource Development in 1988 as assistant and subsequently associate director of corporate development. In 1991, he joined the Foundation Relations and Development Services staff as associate director. He became director of development services and retained his associate director position in foundation relations in 1991.

Over the years, Dr. Wilson has managed the Office of School Development Services and acted as chief liaison with School Development officers. He has also become a prime contact with some of MIT's most important foundation donors, which contribute approximately $20 million in annual support to the Institute.

Dr. Wilson was named as one of two 1990 MIT winners of the YMCA's Black Achievers Program. In nominating him for the award, Glenn P. Strehle, vice president and treasurer, noted that Dr. Wilson had been responsible for new gifts to MIT ranging between $100,000 and $1.5 million since 1988, even though he had had no prior fundraising experience.

Dr. Wilson holds the BA degree from Morehouse College, the MTS from Harvard Divinity School, and the MEd and EdD from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
